Another Monday

Saturday was the doll show.  I enjoyed going but it is certainly a shadow of its former self.  I remember when I was a kid, the show took up two rooms.  There was so much to see and lots to buy as well.  This weekend it was in one room and it was small with not much to see.  The best part, for me, was the display of BJDs.  The newspaper had said they would have a “Barbie through the ages” display but either that person didn’t show up or someone got their wires crossed because the only Barbies I saw were pitiful, used ones people were trying to unload.  Still it was worth the $2 admittance and I’ll continue to go as long as they have it now that I know it’s still going on.

As I was browsing I was asked a few times if I had a dollhouse.  I do, it’s not really the one I plan on using and I didn’t feel like getting into any big explanation, particularly since they all deal with 1/12 scale and I’m going with 1/6.  And because my idea of a dollhouse is not really the same.  At one point I actually said “Well I’m going to build one, from scratch.”  The woman said “Oh do you do wood working?”  I said “No never.”  My mother corrected me, we can’t forget that lovely thread rack after all!  The woman looked skeptical.  I said “Well I drew up plans and I’m just going to do it.”  She looked very skeptical.  I don’t think that she thinks I can do it!  Of course what I’m going to build is not some giant Victorian dollhouse.  She told me about people who were selling some and what not.  I’m going to build the house that I want or I’m going to try anyway and if I don’t succeed that’s ok too!

I have to say, though, that I’m glad that I was never told I couldn’t do something.  If I wanted to try something new, my parents supported that.  I’m not afraid to jump in and if I don’t succeed that’s ok because I gave it a shot.  It doesn’t matter that I don’t do woodworking.  I’m sorry that not everyone was raised to believe that they could do anything they set their mind to doing and that it’s ok if you’re not successful because at least you were willing to try.

Well, that’s all for now.  I’m quite hungry and it’s time for some supper!
