Speaking of freebies on the web, I’ve got to say, I really appreciate it when people take the time to make their free tutorials and patterns into a pdf download. I realize not everyone knows how but it’s worth figuring it out if you’re someone that posts tutorials. It’s so much nicer to just click a button and save it for later than what I do now which is to copy and paste it into Word, fuss around with the layout and save it that way.
I think having them as pdfs that you can download also makes both the site and the tutorial/pattern itself look much more professional. There are also multiple sites where you can host these files such as Scribd.com. I know that on my Macbook, I can choose to save a file as a pdf so it’s super simple but even if you can’t do that, a quick search for “free pdf generator” brings up tons of hits.
One of my friends sent me a bunch of old patterns the other day. I’ll take photos and upload them at some point so that I can show them off. It’s neat and who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually make one. I also went on a treasure hunt (I refer to this house as a treasure chest because I’m forever finding neat things stored away) and I found 2 Walt Disney toy patterns. One is Pluto and the other is Donald Duck. It’s funny because each pattern has a price of 25 cents on the envelope. I’ll post those as well when I get around to it.
I’m really hoping that I can sew up a small inventory and hit the local market this summer. I need to spend more time actually sewing but it’s very hard when you feel exhausted all the time. I wish I could spend my days sewing and taking pictures and if I could run a small store where I sold cool things like original photography, art, handmade jewellery and bags, I would be in Heaven. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for years. Ever since my very first visit to New York City when I was in grade 12. We went to Greenwich Village and I went into all these boutiques that sold funky clothes. We don’t have stuff like that here and I thought that I would love to have my own clothing store but I know that wouldn’t get off the ground. Sadly neither would a small shop selling art and handmade items. No one wants to pay the actual value for things around here and I would never make enough money to afford rent. I can dream though and I can wish. Maybe someday I’ll find a way to make it happen. And I’ll write that novel too. Yeah, big dreams.
